By giving entrepreneurs in developing countries small loans, they can start to build their business. As Mohammad Yunus, the founder of the Grameen bank in Bangladesh, has proven (he and his organisation were awarded the […]

Go last.fm!

My favourite web service, last.fm, has been aquired by CBS. I have always been supporting last.fm as a subscriber while they were independent, but if they are owned by a media kraken now, I see no point in paying for next to no additional value. But fear not, in their also new Blog (finally…), Russ […]

You scored as Scientific Atheist, These guys rule. I’m not one of them myself, although I play one online. They know the rules of debate, the Laws of Thermodynamics, and can explain evolution in fifty words or less. More concerned with how things ARE than how they should be, these are the people who will […]

The Coop

Mozilla is working on a Firefox addon called The Coop, which adds social networking functionality. Sounds very cool, and despite my usual paranoid caution about social networks, I will check this one out as soon as there is a working version!

DRM-free music

Ok ok, so we will get DRM-free music tracks, that’s a great step (Techcrunch article). But in AAC format…prft…oh, at 256kpbs. I don’t care, really. I will encode it down to 128 kbps anyway. And to MP3. But I will not buy tracks at 1.29$ per song. That’s so laughable! Why would I pay MORE […]

Global Hotkeys in Amarok for Pause

Wow, this took me a while to get: The global hotkey in Amaroks for Pause changed. You still pause with Windows+C, but continue with Windows+X now. Makes sense, but I was always pressing Windows+C again to continue as it used to be and then had to maneuver with the mouse because it didn’t work…
