GNUMP3d

A neat software I discovered and tried today:
GNUMP3d is a small server software to stream your music collection, and also includes a small web server that automatically provides a web interface. So - you can from a remote computer access your music collection. In the web interface, you choose which music to play and get a playlist that works in your music player of choice.
I have set up a DynDNS address, and my router interacts with DnyDNS; and forwards the port I use to my computer, so that wherever I am, given that GNUMP3d runs, I can access my music.
So far, two problems I need to solve:
a) I want to password protect the access. No problem, and when I use Windows Media Player I can get prompted for a password when playing the playlist. But unfortunately, amaroK doesn’t seem to support password-protected stream acess, does it?
b) Although the tracks I play are tagged, they aren’t submitted to last.fm. Don’t know whether that would be possible?

  1. Alex Ernon:

Unfortunately, streams can’t be submitted to last.fm by clients: the developpers of last.fm don’t allow radio tracks because the tags are way to unreliable. For your gnump3d server, this wouldn’t be a problem, but you can’t rely on the tag quality of any random web radio…
The tracks should be submitted by the streaming server or you should develop your own last.fm plugin for your player :-)
