Songs You Should Know #8: Gentle Giant - Think Of Me With Kindness
I love Gentle Giant. They are an old progressive rock band from the 70s that I like way more than somparable bands like Genesis or King Crimson. They have their own, quiet way of creative outbursts. Multi-instrumentalists, when I hear their music I somehow get the mental image of band members that all look my old Theoretical Physics professor: Full beard, always a friendly but knowing smile, mildly disoriented; yet you see in his his that there is so much going around in his head just waiting to come out. (Looking at a picture of a band, unsurprpsingly, at least two members do look like that…).
the music is a bit hard to swallow from time to time, as they hardly walk on melodic paths anyone has explored before. But their mild sound, the beautiful and carefully placed musical elements, all make this musical so highly enjoyable. It’s always exciting, you never know what instrument will show up next, or what winding road the melody will take.
The song I talk about here, Think of me with kindness, is one of the easier accesible songs. A quiet little sentimentality, later moving into a noble and sincere pledge. Just listen to it once when you get the chance!
