Songs You Should Know #2: Edguy - Babylon
The second song you should know is not as unknown as the first one. Edguy have gained much popularity, and they deserved to. But the album that marked the beginning of their greater success, Theater of Salvation, still has their best song as an opener: Babylon. This encompasses not only everything good about Edguy, but about (german) Power Metal. I still remember how much I loved this CD, and especially this song! The CD was on heavy rotation, but Babylon still stood out as the gem of the album.
Funny anecdote on the side: End of 1999, at a Dream Theater concert. The lights just went out, everybody was chanting for Dream Theater, only a few guys to my left were shouting EDGUY! EDGUY! So I asked them: EDGUY?? And they told me to look to my right…were two Edguy members were standing…after the show, I shortly talked to them and they told me that they were planning to re-record their first album. Well, there have been more releases since then…
