Manowar - Fighting the World

Ok, what can I blog about? Not too much on my head, so it’s time for the promised review of Manowar - Fighting for the World.
I want to compare this album to Judas Priest - British Steel! It’s not really one of their first albums, but viewing from today it’s an early album and sounds different than the later ones. It’s more Rock’n'Roll than Power Metal. It has a number of rocking, pacing numbers.
I really don’t want to get into what manowar has become today - it’s too laughable, and Joey DiMaio really needs some mental healing…
So, let’s stay with Fighting for the World:
The album starts with the title song, which is a hard rocking song, and you can sing the refrain before you hear it for the first time. Just a perfect opener and Manowar at their best! And the fun goes on - “Blow Your Speakers” is slower paced stomper, very much reminds me of Priest! Very cool! The next song, “Carry On”, starts out too slow, so you expect a ballad, but it’s really a catchy singalong. “Violence and Bloodshed” and “Defender” are good fillers, and then the “Drums of Doom” introduces the “Holy War”. A quite typical Manowar song, with build-ups in the verses, and then a raging chorus. The guitar solo with the dumble-bass is a bit annoying though. Then another bridge song leading to the final “Black Wind, Fire and Steel”, which is the best song on the album and one of the best Metal songs ever! This is just how it’s supposed to be done, an exciting intro, than a simple but catching refrain and amazing vocals towards the end! Here the rocking and rolling is forgotten and it’s just Metal power :)
If I had to rate it, it would be 8/10. Some really good songs, some only good songs, only 7 “real” songs overall (ok, that’s the 80s).
